The river Carron is a beautiful and unspoilt salmon fishing beat, with some of the finest fly fishing waters available.

The Gledfield beat runs from the Upper March Pool, right the way to The Bridge Pool, with access from the right-hand bank. If the water is up, tremendous sport can be had and in lower conditions the stealthy fisherman can still be successful.

There are 14 named pools, and some of which benefit from platforms and walkways to provide excellent access. The season runs from 11th January to 30th September, and you can be sure of good sport throughout this lengthy period thanks to our careful population management.

Please note that fishing is strictly by rod and line and fly only at Gledfield, and all those fishing must have treated their fishing tackle and equipment against the Gyrodactylus Salaris parasite in accordance with Scottish Government recommendations. The Sutherland Conservation Guidelines also require fishing to be on a catch and release basis, with the fish unhooked and release as efficiently as possible.

Should you wish to have the expert advice of the Estate’s ghillie can accompany you on your trip for an additional fee of £100.

With the maximum number of rods at any one time limited to just two, you are guaranteed a peaceful, secluded and prolific session. Our accommodation at Carron Cottage is given priority access to fishing permits, thanks to its prime location on the river, and is our recommended option for anyone looking to Gledfield for a fishing break.
